I had to seperate my clowns, I initially had 2 pairs and my original ones went nuts on my new pair of BW's. I believe it's because they are starting to breed, they have been together for about a month with just basic harrasing.

I have quarantined the bigger pair into a fairly small reptile tank, the ones that have the air slots around the entire lid and I am floating it in my tank to keep the temp up. The container is 6"long & 3" wide & I'm unsure if it will become toxic in that space if they are making waste due to stress. I may not be able to bring them to the LFS today and I'm wondering how bad this is for the fish. They are each about 2"-2.5" long so it's really cramped for them. I put food in there that they ate yesterday, they will be in for about a day and a half.

Here's a pic of the type of container. mine's got a handle. Will they be ok?

For clowns that's fine. Most clowns don't leave the same 6 inches of space anyway.

honestly, i don't think that would be a great idea. its like locking up children in the bathroom while they are sick...its too small and may stress out the fish even more.

Since it's in your tank anyway, I would just make sure some water exchange is happening to keep them from putting out more waste than they can handle in that little container.

Yeah like inwall said, clowns tend to keep to a small space. Maybe put a small rock or heater in there that they could hide behind when stressed? Mine likes to hide around the heater when scared. And like others said, partial water changes frequently will be the key to keep the waste in check for that size.

A 10 gallon Q isn't very expensive so it wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade though. I bought my Q tank @ walmart for 15 bucks(10 gal). That plus, a heater, powerhead, maybe cover at minimum would probably run you about 50 bucks. To me, 50$ is worth spending to save a fish.

appreciate the input, they ended up ok, there were vents all along the top of the lid so there was water exchange going on. It's too small to fit a heater in there but turned out fine. They were only in that container about a day & a half. The clowns are now in the care of another reefer.
