Good question. It would have to be the conditioner used in this case. I know I have these kinds of problems when I do a water change using RO and Reef Crystals. It overskims for a while and then mellows out. It seems that anything you add to the water wants to be skimmed out.

So I am not a scientist so I can't elaborate on the subject but supposedly there is something in some water conditioner and synthetic salt blends that rises the water tension, which in turn causes bubbles.

That's why I asked! because I use aqua safe and it bubbles up only when I mix it with the water then it settles, I also keep it in the dark at least a day or so before I use it, I have no RO unit yet, but as soon as I can afford one I will buy it, but the micro bubbles has never been no issue.

how old is the skimmer/tank btw?

I found this little right up but nothing really else on whats in the water conditioner.

Hmm...I would check your water conditioner and see if it's Aquasafe. No offence to the Aquasafe people but I have found that this water conditioner is very "bubbly" when added to the aquarium--in otherwords, it foams the water and sometimes give the appearance of "soapy" water. Surface agitation makes the bubbling worse. Usually this bubbling goes away with a several days but it can also sit on top of the water for a while also! Aquasafe is not a "bad" water conditioner, it's very good and beneficial. But the best thing I can think for you to do about the bubbles is to net them out and rinse them off with your aquarium net. I wouldn't think they'd keep coming back. If they do, or you just can't stand the bubbles, switch water conditioners to stresscoat, amquel, Prime, or Startright

Sorry! I needed to know what it is venturi or air induced? if it is air induced the problem could be the air stone needing to be replace, and venturi alike if there is a strong water current that flows toward the skimmer direction might be forcing the bubbles outside the skimmer chamber, air could be trapped some where in the filter also, I placed my skimmer
really close to the over flow box and that done the trick for me!

If this bubbles you are talking about are just on the surface of the water you have something else making them, I refer to the ones in mid water!

The bubbles are all over the tank, what happens is this stuff is like soap, once you add it to the the system the skimmer introduces the air to the water making a bubble mixture, the bubbles don't burst because of the chemical in the condition coats the bubble turning it into a soap bubble, kind of like doing dishes and how soap bubbles attach to you.....

It is really not a big problem, all you have to do is switch to using ro water which can be purchase for 75-99 cents a gallon. if you continue to use the synthetic salt and conditioner you may cause the skimmer not to skim/work right. save the wondering just use ro water. I was just broke and didn't feel like driving the 5 miles to a store.

I had the same problem, and I started getting a hair algae problem. I installed a 6 stage RO/DI system under my kitchen sink as my water supply and it helped out A LOT. I got it off ebay for $120, and once a year I change out all the cartridges and my TDS is always below 15ppm. It's a little investment, but I would highly recommend it.
