So the other day I took a trip to a fish store about 30 mins away from me. I went because I heard so many good things about it...I arrived, and it was AWESOME... I was about to think about what I was going to get, but then I looked at the prices. These were nearly triple what I pay at my LFS!

Here was a small rundown of the prices that I remember...Dont get me wrong, the place was nice, and the corals were awesome, but IMO the prices were WAY too high! These are NOT an exaggeration

Medium size rock of anthelia polyps: $65!!!!!!!!!!!!

Medium size rock of small blue zoas: $100!!!!!!!!!

    Small plate coral (orange): $80!!!!!!!!!!!!???????

    Also some fish....
    Coral beauty: $50
    Normal Malawi cichlids (small): $25!!!!
Some of their small fish were remotely close to reasonable such as a watchman goby for $25, but that is still pricey....

Extremely small frag of neon green favia: $50 (It was like a little bigger than a frag plug)

A lot more outrageous prices, but you get the point
Are these extremely high???????? Or is my normal LFS giving me insanely good deals LOL
The place was still awesome just to see though! :p
Nice tanks, and a huge selection of insane prices!

Sounds like one of the stores we have here. We look for an hour at their great display tanks then leave LOL.

I got this for $20 at the store we frequent now:

At the other store, they don't even have frags of GSP this size. They were charging $40 for something less than a quarter of that size. GSP! That's nuts!

    Seems rather high to me!!!

The nicest store around here is about 40% higher then all the other stores...... guess that's how they keep the store looking so nice!

Yup $20 for that nice piece of GSP sounds very reasonable to me! My main lfs is great because they are very nice and helpful. Also their prices are great, and they can order me pretty much any coral you can think of that is normally in the reef and marine trade. The other place was nice to look at, and view the selection, but I do not think I would ever actually buy anything. :)
    LOL

Yeah, we wonder how long it's going to take them to figure out that we never buy anything there...

I know...... people come up to me that work there and they are like "do you need help with anything?"

Me (talking to myself) "Hmmmmmmmm... unless you divide your prices by 3 I do not think I will be needing any help... LOL

$50.00 coral beauty is a bit crazy.

orange plates have become more expensive over the last yr at the wholesalers, but $80.00 still a bit high.

wow..i would be a millionaire, literally if i charged those prices compared to my cost on wholesale..

i just sold a 30+ head of purple acans for 125$ just to give you an idea...

    coral beautys are 28$

this reason is why me and my buddy that owns the business hates fish stores and sells his stuff even cheaper to piss them off more..

I'm going to be the odd ball out here and say those prices are only slightly more then what i would find at my LFS that I visit/buy from regularly. I guess prices are relative to where you live tho for example: rent in NY is double what it is here in chicago which is triple that of Phoenix ect... but people in NY on average get paid more then people in chicago who get paid more then in Phoenix for doing the same job.
I think I paid about $80-100 for my Hammer coral that had 4 heads and was the size of my whole hand maybe $70-80 for a rock that had 80-100 assorted zoa's on it. Coral Beauty may be $35-50 depending.
    just my 2 cents.
