Well figured i'd post an update of the build. Got the canopy 90% completed the other day, good enough though to put ontop of the 135 for a test run. I do plan to put some baffles to keep light from spilling out the back and some finishing trim pieces.
Metal halides are all up and running. I opened the canopy doors to show my wife the new lights and she said she's sunburnt now (haha). They are really bright bulbs and i love the color spectrum and shimmer with those 400w SPS 14,000K.
(ya ya ya, i know. I turned my back for two seconds and my wife put decor on top of the canopy. When she falls asleep I'll take it down ;)

Oh ya forgot... The wierdest thing just recently happened (or at least i think it just happened) I was looking around in the tank tonight and came across what looks like Aptaisia. I have had this tank up and running for i think 6 yrs now and have never seen anysigns of them before. Only thing i just recently added was 1 snail about a month ago... Oh well, looks like i get to go Aptaisia hunting...

    Lookin great!
Now that it's setup and running what are your thoughts on the overflow?
How about those lights? They causing any heat issues?

Well the 150g that i've been drilling and plumbing is still in the garage. It will go in place of the 135g that is currently set up in the picture above once i get the sump configured. The 135g has been bugging me for yrs with that big 'ol ugly acrylic patch on the back pane and all those internal powerheads.
As for the lights, i have had them on for about 3 hrs tonight and water temp is measuring out at 78F. I'm really excited about that. So i gotta say you were right about elevating them higher in the hood :) The bulbs now measure approx 13" above water level. The back of the canopy is fully exposed. I still plan to add fans, but the chiller might not be necessary. Time will tell though. Thanks BTW for the post and replies :cheesy:

Well, still no videocamera so please bear with me.. I have a question out there for any Bean-Animal overflow experts. I have mine up and running in the garage on the 150g and things seemed to be working as planned, then I extended the down tube below the sump water line and there are small 3/8" and smaller size bubbles continuously bellowing out into the sump. At first i was not alarmed, however an hour later its still purging small bubbles. Could it be due to the fact I'm running my 3 down pipes into a manifold?

    Thanks for looking

well just to keep documenting i may as well mention that i have not worked on the build for quite some time. Getting closer to the new borns due date and i had to spend a fortune on my truck. It all started with needing tires, which i couldn't pass off any longer. Then i found that both front wheel bearings, inner/outer tie rods and 2 ball joints were shot. I ended up replacing all 4 ball joints but with the cost of parts plus tires the future reef to be will need to wait a while... sorry for the "poor" update

I think these are hydroids not aptaisia.

You have a nice tank there.

    bummer :(
next time go trade it in on a new model and get another 40K miles maintenance free (make the dealer include the first couple of oil changes, they think they are doing you a favor)
