The ruffling you see along the edges of the mantel look like pinched mantel disease but hard to tell from a picture. Very common in crocea clams.

Pinched Mantle Syndrome in Giant Clams

Do some research and see what you think.

Croceas are my favorite clams. Yours looks so beautiful.

nobody told me and it came as a big surprise for some reason when it happened to me... idk if this is your first clam death or not... I've had it happen once...

anyway, be careful when removing the dead clam. In my case, after I removed it from the water, the loogi of a dead clam slipped out of the shell and landed on my trumpets like a big snotty blanket. Didn't hurt them, but scared me plenty.

    Just FYI.

EDIT: I also saved the dead clam in the freezer. I cut off bits as coral/fish food sometimes for variety. (I actually do that for anything that dies that's edible by something in the tank.

Once they get to the stage where they are mainly closed a FW bath is usually enough stress to kill them that much quicker. Still debate on the effectiveness of medications. To treat PMD one must recognize the symptoms early and do routine FW baths. Also it is contagious so be on the watch if you have other clams. Sorry I can not be of more help, but you will know what to watch for next time.

yeah i was thinking if it may help if they just take some tank water and mix it with some coral dip and let it sit for 15 minutes or so..it may help and idk i would try it just to see if maybe it could come back..no reason not to try it..

did we ever figure out how long it has been closed??

if it were mine i would just let it be for a day or so..and then i would maybe dip it...or you could dip it now if you think it has pinched mantle and it may recover..
