I'm looking to put a tank in my bedroom. Nothing more relaxing than losing yourself in a tank, right. ;D I have both tanks and just about everything I would need for either setup. I'd probably need a few more rocks for the 29, but other than that I'm set. Either way I will be doing a LPS dominate system. I have yet to decide if I will go fishless, transfer my 2 yellow tails, or get a couple of b&w Ocellaris. I will not be using a sump and probably no skimmer as I'm a pretty lite sleeper. The plan is to simply rely on bi-weekly water changes.

    Give me your thoughts/comments.

    TIA

I have a 29g tank. I love the dimensions now that I finally figured out a 'scape that actually looks good in the tank. But the same 'scape would probably look even better in a 20 long. :p

Lighting will be about the same cost and you say you already have equipment. I will be getting 3 par 30s from BoostLED. if you went this route you would need 3 bulbs either way.

Well then it's just personal preference. A 20g L is always going to be easier to aquascape. But the 29g will give you a little more wiggle room when it comes to livestock.

I love LPS corals. :) Bright colors like SPS, with some of the movement you get from soft corals. :)

the 20 long seems more of a fun build than a 29 ;D

    good luck either way

I like 20g long tanks because they're more shallow and as Seano siad easier to aquascape.

Yeah LPS are awesome, the colors are CRAZY, the movement is a big plus, and feeding them is cool too. All round great coral and most are pretty easy and hardy.

haha. I saw that mistake in my post and fixed it earlier. :p

I noticed the "spotlight" look when Bobo showed me he bulb over a 29g. so for my tank I will be going with 2 60* optics (above my 2 islands) and a single 40* opic for the middle of the tank, where the corals will be on the sandbed. You can see what I mean, here.

I might get a stunner strip (or two) for my tank too. I am not sure about actinic lighting yet. Do you think 1 is enough or will you need a 2nd one? My boost bulbs will all be the 4 blue/1 white combo.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I'll probably go with the 20L and try to sell the 29g.

I had a neat 20 long reef tank a few years back. I had a 70w halide with 2 T5 actinics on it.
If I were to do it again, I'd get a bigger sump than the 10 gallon I had on it, but it was a cool. I like the dimensions on 20 longs.

I think personally I would like the 20L. I wouldn't go fish-less...it's not a problem most have, but many of our grow-out/holding tanks have very low bio-loads...it can actually be a problem with too low a level of nitrogen waste.

Well 20L it is and the build is underway. :builder2::builder2::builder2:

A few cheap gooseneck lamps from HD after a little dremel surgery.

Quick rock setup. I have more plus what's in the 10g.
