I just broke my Berlin Skimmer. Now, it is about 8 years old. I was putting the input arm back on, it is threaded and the female part of the thread just split open! Poop.

Now, the question.....How long do you think I will be safe running skimmerless? I have the fuge/sump with 4" DSB, 2" in the tank, 80 lbs rock, 2 fish , and a couple corals. If I feed lightly, think I can get by till after Christmas?

All water params are perfect. I have salt and can do a change if you guys think I will need one within a week.

    Thanks!

To be perfectly honest with you i havent been skimming for the last three years, been trying to but havent yet! (see other threads). I am sure with your low load and a promise to do a water change you will be alright till the new year (just do a bucket a week if you are worried)

but for the time being if your looking to invest in a new skimmer in the january sales (do you guys get them??) why not do a quick repair job?

If the unit is acrylic then go to a harvare store and get the sealant ( such as that used for pvc) which melts the plastic back together, or even use milliput ( if you also have that) which is a putty that is reef safe and goes off after a couple of hours.

Due to your carefull stocking i too think you will be just fine for a minimum of afew weeks if not longer. I just got a used remora with overflow box myself, and busted the collection cup when i got it home. i just used some PVC glue/sealant and its up and running. Most glues and bonding agents become inert and unharmfull after they fully cure and harden, i mean i must mave 7 frags superglued in place in a 12 gal tank...i think youll be fine. ;)

Yeah, the hubby is going to wrap some fiberglass tape or thread or something around the outside and epoxy the seam for now....but he has an intestinal virus right now so it may be a couple of days.

Yup! Will be looking for the clearance sales in January...we have those too

    Thanks! :) ;D

    So I am thinking....Urchin Pro???

My sump was designed around my skimmer and the compartment it would need to go in is small....

So it's that or another hang on type.

What do you all think?? ::) ::)

I have 3 Aqua Remora C skimmers and love them all. I get 1 full cup from my 60 gallon every 3 days and 1 cup every week.5 on my 30 gallon. Just be sure to get the 1200 pump to run it with. That is a option remora has when they sell the package. Its also sleek and slim and has a smoked look that kinda looks cool. But it also works well and no adjusting/tweaking needed.

New they are 160 bucks with the pump so thats not bad compared to some.

Thanks, how many gph is the 1200? I was hoping to use one of the pumps I have already...I have 2 Mag 5's and a Mag 9.5 (500 gph and 950 respectively) I think the Urchin Pro woudl fit in my sump.

How quiet or not quiet is it? Does the remora make a bit of waterfall sound? :D

Im not sure aboit the gallons per hour but I can look that up for you. And the remora will not make a waterfall noise if your water level is kept high. Its little chute that the water slides down hangs down into the water on my 60 gallon and it makes zero noise. The sound of the jet spraying the water has a little sound but with the cup in place I dont hear it at all 5 feet from the tank. But I have fans running on my halides and power heads and canister filters and ...well you know all the toys we have.
