I have been searching far and wide for DIY LED ideas and well i need to pull the trigger soon before i spend it on something else (like the gf! uh down side to them lol) I was crunching numbers together and put together some possible choices, what would you guys do..for the heat sink i have an idea in my head to use u channel and angle to build a nice fixture if i go that route.. here your input
THE TANK IS A 72 BOW, LIGHT WILL BE HUNG A DIY FIXTURE(added cost lol)

let me know if you guys see another possible set up that might be easier on my pockets ;D

    Choice 1:
72 kit from aquastyles with their 7x16 heatsink
$259 or $246 DIY SINK cons : cheap drivers idk if my arduino can dim
    Choice 2:
RapidLed 48 LED ultra kit with 5.9 x 16 heatsink
$445- Pro: meanwell P drivers, arduino setup for them already
    Choice 3:
Rapid Led 48 kit with DIY u channel sinks
    $410
    Choice 4:
    BridgeLux 30 RB, 5 6500k, 25 10k
    60- 80 degree optics
    6x16 sink
    5-meanwell P’s
    $386 or $357 DIY heatsink

Choice 2 has the best equipment...

You'll need two heatsinks however, regardless of what you do. And I'd probably do 20" on each.

Thanks everyone, why not the bridgelux meanwell combo, i heard good things about those leds?

Nice Tank! do you fine the 20" heatsink a better idea? or is the 16 fine ? and the 65 optics seems low, no spotlighting ?

+1 for Rapid kit! Today's technology becomes outdated tomorrow.. so you might wanna get the best stuff that you can afford at the moment.

Im still deciding (more like brainwashing the boss) about my LED re-build as well. I will go two 5.9"x16" heatsinks from Rapid for my 90. I guess it's just personal preference.

(Have we seen your 72 with water in?)

No the tank is currently empty..build it new from the floor up

and what about color ratio.. i read in sevral threads that people wish they didnt go with the CW, RB 1:1 ratio..i hear some warm whites or natural whites in the mix is a better spectrum ?

I thought I saw the BeanAnimal setup a while ago? Is that the one?

If you look at the manufactured light fixtures, 90% of them is 1:1 Cool Whites and Royal Blues. Thats why I went 1:1 for my first build. Since Ive read/seen enough articles and whatnot that UVs are effective on SPS, Im doing something like this:

    -Cool White 12 (Cree XP)
    -Royal Blue 12 (Cree XP)
-Epi UV 6 (Aquastyle UV LED)
    -420nm UV 6 (LEDGroupBuy.com)
    -Neutral White 12 (Cree XP)
    -Blue 6 (Cree XP)
Total 5 Meanwells. I really would like to use cyans blended in, yet no one really has them...

Fill it up already then!! LOL

Part of the reason is there is only few decent ones.. I wanted to go 5w UVs but they are still expensive. And the UV spectrum is not really visible to human eyes either, that makes less popular as well, but I guess I have to try and see some long term results...
