    I personally feel you got bad advise on the CC. Lots of folks say it causes bad water params... I've yet to hear a first hand experience of this.

    I've been running CC for over 2 years and my nitrates have been 0 for almost 2 years...

    It's a myth as far as I can tell. It sounds logical that it would cause problems since it's bulky and can catch debris - but that's what a CuC is for. It's a non issue.

    I'll second this thought pattern..

    While I personally have only had my tank since November the previous owner of the complete setup (minus what I have added of course) had it for over 3years with CC substrate. (Moved everything even the last drop of water)

    Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate all 0 when I test it. pH stays nice and stable at 8.3 as well.
