Well, it appears the system I bought came with crushed coral.
So do you guys think I should go ahead and just get some aragonite instead?

Seems like about half my grains are super small like sand, but the other half bigger crushed shells and stuff.

It looks like crushed coral anyway.

I wouldn't use crushed coral for reef. FOWLR only.

looks good but I would rather have sand, but the choice is yours, I think corals do best with sand specially for those that sit at the bottom

    From what I've been reading CC=bad, Aragonite=good.
For what I want anyway. Guess I 'll put it on Craigslist.

I've only had two SW tanks so far in my career (haha). The first one was CC and now the one I'm cycling is sand. Of the two sand wins hand down, if only for its looks alone! The only issue I've had was it takes a little bit of effort to get the power heads positioned just right to avoid crazy amounts of sand movement. I was actually creating little sand spouts when I was initially placing the PH.

Easy to find lots of different places to find sand with a google search, but does anyone know of where a good place to get the whitest, fine sand? Doesn't matter if it's the cheapest. Aragonite only.

Thanks for the tip... I don't really care if it's live or not.
If you have some vinegar around the house.. Put a little of your sand in a bowl with vinegar and if it fizzles like an alkaseltzer it's aragonite. Or atleast some of calcium sand.
    Crushed coral fizzles too.
I figure I would like aragonite since it's another source of calcium.

Really!?! I'm going to try that right now! Does it matter if the sand is wet (from my tank) or dry (left over in the garage)?
