    I want to get a pistol shrimp and shrimp goby, nassarius snails and a star fish and i dont think they can stand that course of substrate.

    Not to mention what the crushed coral or whatever it is can hold.

    So I can change out "crushed coral" w l/s with no ill efects?

    I think that it is crushed rocks i really cant see any shell and corals pieces but I think that you would be fine if you changed it out.

    slowly as in 1/3rd of the substrate this week, 1/3rd in another week or so, so on and so forth.

    partition off your substrate into thirds (or quarters, or fifths) and take out the CC in sections.


    There is no need to add *live* sand to an established tank. You are simply running the risk of a cycle. *dead* sand will be fine as the existing tank will make the sand live and you don't run the risk of a cycle.

    should be cheaper too. I can add new sand same day i take out cc?

    Ya as long as you to it in sections, so the bacteria can re-establish in the new sand you should be ok. Might get alittle cloudy when you add the sand.
