Hi guys I have a 130 litre, red sea max tank.
I have a number of corals, 2 common clowns, 2 green chromis and a false gramma.

My cuc at the moment consists of only 10 hermit crabs and 1 emerald crab.

I know this is no where near enough, and I want to steer clear of snails( as the crabs just tear them appart!)

Should I just stick to hermits and just add a lot more?

I had a po4 problem so that let to a lot of algae growth, I have since added a reactor and solved the problem. But the algae is still there!!
Short of pulling the algae off ( I have done this as best I can) what should I do??

    Also do hermits eat algae???

    Advice welcome!!

I'm pretty sure john doesn't ship to scotland but he will recommend an excelent CUC based on the description of your tank you provide him.

+1. See what he has to say. There are other critters you can get too for your CuC.

You should pull the algae off to the best of your ability. Contact reefcleaners for suggestion and up your hermits. Limpits and chitons should withstand hermits.

Also, if you have your phosphate problem under control, just do weekly water changes and don't overfeed the tank and your algae problem should go away. You need to ensure your supply water is pure also.

The TDS of my ro/di water is 001 and is free of po4.
Done another water change last night so hope this helps.

    Thanks :)

the hermits often try and get the snails out of their shells in order they can have them to live in
IMO its good to have a mix of hermits and snails as the snails can get to places the hermits cant reach
if you have half a dozen larger shells in the tank, the hermits will often choose to use these as its less effort than evicting a snail
