I was wondering if you could toss in a few cuddle bones used for birds into the sump of a reef tank? Since it is made almost entirely of calcium and dissolves rather quick in water, would this be a good calcium supplement for the reef? Has anyone ever tried this?

I think it could work. But I'd stick to aquarium products

    i wouldn't
if its solid calcium and it disentigrates quickly in water
    you could easily over dose

K+ I only add one drop per day for my 40 gallon reef and it still creaps up there. I think trying this would lead to disaster.

You would need to make sure the calcium would be available in a form that is useable by corals, not just any calcium product will do. Also dosing as suggested earlier is another big problem, who knows how consistent they are, and how pure as well. If they happen to have traces of copper or something in them that would be really bad.

That's got me wondering too. Are you turning your swimming pool into a giant salt tank?
