    I think the lighting spectrum can change the appearance and the actual color of coral/algae. Thats why corals look so different tank to tank. Same deal with coralline. It definitely influences it.

    coraline is crazy!!!! I feel from personal experience that depending on lights water quality age and livestock your coraline can change colors. I have watched (over a 5 month period) Pink change to orange then to purple and ending un the neon bright purple that is the most common. I might be way off but I think the different colors are different stages in the algea's life, and I know I have read alot of different people sayng that its different species that make the different colors, I have personaly whitnessed the colors morph, it just takes a wile. And the dark red, If its not cayno try not scraping but clean some of the dark red off and see if you have purple coraline underneith, I have dark red that gets going in my tank also, but when i scrape it, its dark healthy purple coraline algea.
