I placed a new cup coral in my tank about 10 days ago (shipped from CA to UT.) It kind of just sat there looking the same, so yesterday I gently brushed it with a soft toothbrush. This morning it was shedding. I sucked the "shed" off with a turkey baster.

Is this typical? Does anyone know what specific type of cup coral this is, and what I can expect it to look like if it ever does anything but sit there? Or is that what it's supposed to do. . . just sit there and look green!

I should add that this was a surprise purchase. I told bluezoo to replace an out of stock item with something they thought I would like (they know my tank setup) and this is what they sent.

Pagoda cup corals are a beautiful coral! The intensity and kelvin of the bulb will have alot to do with the overall color of your particular coral species. I am willing to say that yours is a Turbinaria Frondens or Reniformis! They are a fairly hardy small polyped stony coral and are more hardy than their cousin, the large polyp Turbinaria.
The mucus is often a result of stress or it can also be a way for the coral to rid algae, detritus and other irritating accumulants from it.
