I too bought sand from this place, great stuff!!! The trick to the cheap price is the shipping, the sand is put in the USPS "Flat Rate Box". No matter the weight its a flat rate, around $8.50. My sand was sugar fine, really fine. Turned out great though, mixed with SeaFlor special and was a great addition to what I had...IMO.

I was starting new tank so I just mixed it with the other sand and put it in my tank, let it settle and turned on my pumps.

And yes i would think 30 lbs would be enough.

I actually find that a little funny, you live in Florida and you bought sand from someone in New Jersey! Come on you got to admit its funny!

Your right about the shipping, But my sand was not real fine, it was a mix. But you are right about it being great stuff. Nice and bright, which was what i was liking for.

Wow maybe I'm spoiled but I'm only paying $.90 for LS and $3.99 for LR over 40 lbs. And for anyone looking for sand surprisingly enough my local Deathco has LS for only $.80/LB in 10 LB. bags!

Check out Premium Aquatics INC - live rock and aquarium supply they are a sponsor of 3reef and the main place that Otty, Kogle & I go for all of our goods. They have good prices on LR (Fiji is the best deal and I like it most). But we also pick ours up so check out their shipping rates, I have no idea what it costs to ship rock.

Ya the Deathco here sells LR for around $50/lb I think!! All they have are really small peices that they sell for around $20. I would scope out online retailers and find the one with the cheapest rock/shipping combined cost.

I know it's sick to drop that much dough but as I've found out over the last couple of months it's sick how much a SW tank costs overall!! If I were you I would buy all uncured base rock to save a lot of money. Another perk to this is that you know EXACTLY whats going in your tank. Less than 1/2 my rock I bought live and if I did it all over again I would put all base rock in. Too much money goes into these things to not know what parasites your putting in your tank!!
