curing live sand?

1/2 live, 1/2 Base.. Add water, light and time and you have all live rock. Takes longer but allot cheaper!

Even if you use all base rock and base sand everything will become alive through time. It is definitely a long process but foolproof when it comes to knowing what is in your tank. When you cycle, your fish (or whatever you cycle with) provides the bacteria needed for your tank to become an established system.
I won't turn any lights on until at least the 3 month mark. If you have any questions, ask Otty, he knows more about this way of cycling than I do.

 

Okay I guess I should have said "a Little light". Isnt 3 months a little bit long? Any coraline algae that was on the live rock would be gone by then I would think.

 

I believe that with this way of cycling the coraline algae growth will just be up and coming by the time you turn your lights on. I bought LR thinking that was what I wanted to do and I'm just saying on second thought I would use all base rock. If you use all base rock it won't hurt to wait 3 months to turn lights on, especially MH. Let the tank do it's thing, establish a natural filter then turn lights on. Like I said Otty knows more about it than me, but look at his 265 thread I think the pics speak for themselves.

well i got that 24 nano with 5.5 lbs of crushed coral and that gave me about 1/2 - 3/4" base... i got the sand from that site in the mail today and i think/ looks it is fresh off the beach!!!! i
