Is this light any good, and will it be sufficient for a reef? It seems like a really good price. Any suggestions on other lights in this price range? thanks

Ha. I've been trying to find out more about T5's myself and haven't been able to get a reply. It must be that not many folks use these types of lights. I know a lot of folks are very fond of metal halides. I personally have power compacts and I'm considering upgrading to T5's...if I can learn more about them and what brand is reliable...

The price at Doctors F&S is $180 and that includes Slimpaq 460nm Actinic and 10000°K T-5 HO lamps. Sounds like a good deal doesn't it?

I know a lot of people like the metal halides but they seem to be really expensive.

    Thanks for the link Matt.

Depending on your setup good T5s can be quite expensive as well. I recommend a unit with good individual reflectors. Good brands are ATI, TEK, Aquatnics , and some others as well. Just do your research first you want to buy it right the first time.

I agree with reefersRus. For roughly $50 more ($228.74) you'll get a much better fixture. That price includes shipping. I too use Drs Foster and Smith for alot of my purchases, but the below link is just too good to pass up.

    Current USA Sundial T5HO - 10K / 460nm Actinic Light Fixtures

Although, even that fixture may not be right for you. How deep is your tank? What do you plan on keeping in it? You'll need to answer at least these questions, otherwise you could end up with a fixture that isn't enough for your needs.
