My neighbor had a wolf eel that would climb out of one tank and into the one sitting next to it. Didn't believe it until we turned the room lights off and set there with a couple beers in hand watching the show. He kept wondering why he was losing fish in the other tank and the question was answered.

I heard a similar story years ago in a LFS but it was an octopus scaling a wall to get to the other tank, eat some fish, then it would climb out and scale the wall back to his tank. I refused to believe it until he showed me video of it on his phone!

I will vouch for the screen and bird netting. I bought some at Home Depot and made this:

Not to keep the fish in, but to keep this fat furball out. he never had a chance at th efish but got water everywhere and smeared it on the glass.

Lol Pickup, same here.. my siamese is obsessed with my fish tanks.. and loves to dab his paws in there, before I built the screen tops.

I just use my canopy. the back is decently small enough for just the wires for my lights and powerheads on my 90. I took the panels that made it completely enclosed because I felt like I should get better ventilation for the LEDs. Ive had a few fish try to jump out but worst that's happened is my filefish and Ruby red scooter jumped into the overflow when they couldn't get out.

For now.. And to at least get my money's worth out of the eggcrate idea, I cut out a 10" strip that runs the length of my T5 fixture and left some on the edges. Light is getting back in and it would take some serious effort for my eel to get out of the tank still. My cat has never messed with any of my tanks thankfully. He's every bit of 20lbs so that would be a nightmare!
