Hey all. Hope this hasn't been answered a million times. I've searched, and came up with many threads, but none addressing my exact question.

I have a 10 gal glass tank that I'm going to turn into a refugium. I need a total of 4 glass baffles, but don't know where to turn to for glass cutting.

Does anyone know, or can point me to a thread where cutting glass is explained?

Additionally, how does one create an opaque baffle? Since the tank is glass, and I'm using silicone, the baffles will be glass too.

    Much appreciated. Thanks.

You should be able to go down to your local home improvement center, I have Lowe's and Home Depot, and buy a glass cutting kit. It probably comes with a lubricant and the tool looks kind of like an old skeleton key with a small wheel and round tip. It's about 6 inches long, the wheel is what cuts or scores the glass. You use the rounded end to strike the glass at the score line which causes it to break along the score. The kit comes with instructions. Unless you get crazy with round cuts or something special it's a pretty straight forward operation. WEAR GLOVES!!!!! If you don't want to cut it yourself, they should be able to do it for you.

thanks for the reply. So that's it, huh? I just got back from HD, I had that kit in my hand. It contained a grease pencil, cutting lubricant, and the tool. I left without it. I should have had more confidence. Tomorrow I'll go back and buy it.

remember to size the panels correctly, as the glass tank will expand when it is filled/partially filled.

If its a refugium why do you feel the need to add a totally un-needed baffle ? what is its purpose ?

to avoid the DSB getting kicked up and returned to the main tank via the pump.

If you move enough water through a refugium to blow the sand then you are moving water to fast to allow the DSB and plants to do their job. The refugium just needs a trickle to pass through it..Don't listen to alot of the new B/S I see about refugiums always someone wanting to put their name on a old idea and rethinking it out of all proportions .

Eye protection. ALWAYS wear eye protection.

Generally you tap the side opposite the score, grasp either side of the score and apply light pressure by turning your wrists up. No sudden movements, even pressure.
