I bought a hammerhead last week. It has a huge base and I wanted to to take a dremel and cut base so I can stick it in a rock. Any suggestions on if this is a good idea or not???

is it a branching one? if so it would probably be ok i don't have expierence with hammer coral but i do with frogspawn. the tenticles retract into the branches a little bit as long as you give them some room it should be ok.
    i wouldn't try to cut a non-branching one

It sounds like you want to narrow the base. I use a dremmel also and it works great for cutting the branches. Just retract the heads in before you cut and hang on to it so it dont fly out of your hand if it grabs. I suggest goggles.

I can't get a picture right now since it is bedtime for the tank. I will try to explain then get a pic tomorrow. There is a long stump then the top looks like a rasta head. LOL It is about 3 inches tall almost looks like a leather mushroom with a hammerhead on the top.

I looked at my hammerhead with a flashlight and I think a new growth is coming in on the stalk. Perhaps I should hold off doing anything so I dont shock the thing?

That I didn't understand..?? Must have been a joke..??

As a Shipfitter I know to use them anytime useing a power cutter, sander, etc..
And Hammers can be very toxic.. You don't want ANYTHING in your eyes..
I would leave it along, and find a different place for it.. They can really grow large..
And you may have to move it, in the future..
