Been doing a lot of reading on them and am considering getting a couple in my future 37 gallon refugium. Does anyone on here have any experience with them? Also does anyone have any species to recommend. i want to add something exotic to my tank and they seem much easier to keep then octopus plus i hear they are somewhat easy to breed :) They have a tolerance for flow unlike seahorses. I want to keep either cuttlefish or seahorses in my refugium since it will also be on display. Opinions?

I would go with seahorses. You don't need a ton of flow in your fuge and seahorses are amazing.

I would definitely go with seahorses over cuttlefish. As I said before, I did some research on them and I really think they are pretty difficult to keep or at least that's what I surmised....also, they are pretty expensive from what I remember and difficult to find....I definitely understand your interest though - they are too cool

The saltwater hobby is considered exotic by most. Keep a healthy fish tank for a year and two and then consider whether you really want the commitment of hardier to keep fish and inverts.

The link I provided previously : TONMO: The Octopus News Magazine Online

Do not rely on speculation on those that have never kept them. Go to the source, people with first hand experience.

These creatures are intelligent, not like fish. Think of keeping a cat instead of a fish.

They do not belong in a sump.

    This is very true.

My true intent is get some experience under an individuals belt before considering more intelligent fish and inverts. Do not make the same mistakes I made before the days of forums and wealth of knowledge available to those interested.

Of course seeking guidance and information regarding any topic is invaluable, but I am not going to sugar coat it. Get first hand experience in basic fish husbandry, water chemistry with hardier inhabitants prior to delving into the more difficult aspects of this hobby.

I have successfully kept both stingrays and seahorses before. I have experience under my belt but just happen to have a small tank and would like to experience new species.

IMO, none of them are a good idea.
Cuttlefish and octopus need a 70g tank and are gonnabe a PITA to keep from escaping. How are ya gonna seal a refrugium tight enough to keep them from escaping with everything going in an d out.
Seahorses, need a taller tank, and you're gonna get hydroids majanos etc in there that will kill them, also you're gonna need a HUGE pod population to keep them alive, cause handfeeding them in a fuge is gonna be a HUGE PITA.

IMO, I just dont think a 37G fuge is a good fit for any of these

Good luck if you do though.
