Is this stuff cyano? I have been scrapping it off little bits at a time and it grows right back. Today I have started seeing little bubble sticking to rock and to the glass.

Please let me know what it is and what I can do about it.

    perams are good!

No, I just use RO water thinking that would solve any problems with that.

just about 3 months now. I am thinking the problem is probably over feeding, so I have decreased my lighting time and will feed less and just for good measure I am going to put in my new sump next week with a Eshoppes skimmer. I will get some of the phosphate removing media as well if that should help.

There usually are phases of various algaes in new tanks and yours is about the age when it happens - diatoms ususally first......removing it manually and doing what you're doing will help but I think from what I've read, it will pass but the intervention you're doing with the feeding and adding the sump with skimmer probably will take care of it. If you have good husbandry, you may not need gfo - I'd do what you're doing and see....just my .02
