So my house RO unit crapped itself, and yes i should've added the DI, but thought the RO would be enough! I was wrong! New RODI unit by AquaFX sold be reefwerks.com is on its way! Pretty good deal too, granted not ebay cheap, but made in America, by Americans and real close to Ebay cheap, plus if I have a question, I can understand the answer! Anyways!

My plan as I really don't want to dose my tank with Boyd Chemiclean REd slime remover! So gonna:
1.reduce feedings of fish and inverts to every other day
2.syphon off with the tubing thats coming with the RODi all cyano i can
3.reduce photoperiod a bit and maybe give it a 2 day ecclipse
4.with new water do a few bigger water changes over a few weeks about 20% a pop
5.insert some GFO into my fiter media
6.keep placing my Astrea snails and mexican red legs on it!

My cyano problem is really kinda minor compared to some other stories i've read, just a few places here and there, but growing! Sound like a plan or should i just use the red slime stuff and try to be done with it?

looks like you have a good idea of what you need to do, another thing you could look at is if you have any dead spots in your tank. I wouldn't use any chemical treatments cyano was fairly easy to get rid of by doing the things you have listed, just be patient and siphon out as much as possible with water changes. I was doing a 20% water change once a week and a 5% change a few days later. What kind of filteration are you running?

How often do you change the filters in the aquaclear? I was changing the filters twice a week when I had a hob filter.
You have plenty of flow in the tank but you might have some dead spots still.
Also are you still running your t5 lights? The bulbs might be the prob. I had some hair algea growing with my bulbs that weren't even 6 months old and now that I have ATIs the algea is going away.

Still running the t5 but the led system is on the way! Gonna increase the carbon change n the aquaclear and also add GFO in there! plenty of room! Might add a phospahte reactor as budget allows!

I understand how budgets go. What I've heard about gfo is it needs plenty of flow through it to keep it from clumping up so I don't know how it'll work in a filter seagel in a media bag might be a better option until you get a reactor.

The tank looks good and the cyano isn't bad at all you should be able to knock it out fairly quick. I wouldn't be as worried about the cyano in your fuge if you can keep it there it will help remove nitrates and phosphates from your water.
