I finally got the cyano in my mantis under control. I did a 2 day lights out, not a total black out, just didnt turn the lights on, so the ambient light still hit the tank a little. Followed by replacing my bulbs. While it hasnt vanished, its all but gone now & still receeding back into nothingness.

I had a problem with it and just increased the change schedule on my GFO from 4 weeks if I wasn't being lazy to 2 weeks with half the original amount, siphoned the cyano out every water change and gave all the equipment a thorough cleaning and detritus removal.

    Good luck

I agree with checking your containers. We started getting cyano and on a whim he checked the TDS of the RO/DI we'd been storing in 2 containers for waterchanges (slow RO/DI unit, so we made & stored). I think we were reading something like 120 TDS after a day in the containers. We bought a new, faster RO/DI & make same-day water, just using the containers for toting between the RO/DI and the mixing container. No more cyano.

I don't think I would call it starving them. They are both fat and happy and have been fed this way for 8 months ;) its amazing how much food people just chuck in there tanks these days.
