Cyano or coral algae?

    Getting alot of reddy purple algae stuff on my rocks, the stuff on this piece of ocean rock is the worse, cyano or coral algae?, its very hard to move does not budge if i wipe my fingers over it?

    Also getting a bit of snot in the tank, what could cause this is it because my tank is fairly new 8 weeks? or is it the fish have just got a cold, ;D...

    the first pic looks like coralline to me ;D congrats as long as it does not easily come off it i coralline. as for the green stuff it is a slime algae i believe have you tested your water params lately? are you still cycling?

    The tank is 8 weeks old, various inverts 10 in total, 1 midas blenny, 1 chalk goby, 1yellow tail blue damsel, 1 neon damsel,& about 18 watermelon mushrooms+ button polyp, they are all looking and doing great, water parameters are...

    hi. raise your salinity slowly to .025, and put some extra flow towards the bottom of the tank. that should lift the cyano off of the sand bed. to erradicate it, you'll need to monitor/reduce the amount of nutrients you are putting in the tank, and increase your nutrient export.
    i assume you are using a rena cannister, or similar? try cleaning it weekly, for starters. what tyopes of filtration are you utilizing?

    The powerheads are directed at the sand, as much as i can without causeing a sand storm, been like this over a week, still there, no nutrients are added to the tank its a fairly new setup just over 2 months, have not done a water change yet or cleaned out filters,which is a cannister flixstar xp 2, phos-zorb, carbon, filter floss, ceramic rings, filter sponges???
