I'm gonna take a stab at this, and assume you meant coralline algae, not cyano.

Coralline needs a small supply of nitrate and phosphate, along with proper levels of calcium, alkalinity and magnesium.

if you mean cyano it creates spores and is found in different environments. it will spread to your tank just like other algae or bacteria.

I had 50lbs of br, added about 1lb of lr from lfs. Could that have been uncured and caused a problem?

well it may have been the carrier of the spore.

most new tanks will go through a cyano bloom. If it's all over your tank I think something may be wrong, since you didn't feed or add fish. was the base rock clean? did you add anything to cycle the tank?

Yes, a deli shrimp it decomposed in like 2 1/2 weeks. My parameters were great so I added a cuc about a 3 wks ago, clownfish 2 wks ago, 2 zoas 2 days ago. Been feeding sparingly. I had the red powder a month ago but it went away, but its back and starting all over sand pretty pronounced in one area.
