Do water changes and gravel vac it out every 2 weeks. And you may just need more flow in the tank, that could of been the problem in the first place.

Cyano bacteria is usually caused by aquarium water with excess nutrients like phosphate, nitrates etc. You can try adn siphon out what you can to remove the algae in the short term. In the long term you may have to examine how you care for your tank. There are some commercial dry foods also contain excess nutrients and other undesirable things like nitrates, phosphates etc so I strain/rinse my fresh/frozen foods before feeding my tank. You may want to consider feeding your fish less often. Also using RO/DI water and a high quality salt with no NO3, phosphates etc like Tropic Marin will really help too. Adding a phosphate remover and increasing flow in your tank way help too.

the cyano is thriving off some excess nutrient in your tank. Test kits may not show problems since the nutrient is being absorbed by the cyano.

    - what's your feeding schedule like, how often, how much do you feed?
    - how many fish are in the tank, how large is the tank?
    - do you run GFO (in sump or reactor) at all?
    - are your lights old?
    - what type of water do you use, RO/DI?
    - do you dose any additives to the tank?
    - how much flow is in the tank?
    - has anything died in the tank recently, any spikes of AM or NA?
    - what are your params?

I feel cyano is similar to diatoms where it can hit new tanks all the sudden soon after the cycle, but if your tank is established it shouldn't have cyano.

    Good post Mojo

Just to clarify what he said if you have algae in your tank your results will always be inaccurate to some degree. What you might think are perfect will very often not be. If they were there would be nuisance algae ;)

Get rid of the tap water for RO/DI water. Run GFO (Granulated Ferric Oxide) in a filter bag. Double or even triple your flow, and try feeding flakes every other day as well as Brine Shrimp once a week. Do all of these and you can beat Cyano. Don't, and you will face a never ending battle.
