    Forum: Good morning

Just wanted confirmation of the pest which has recently appeared on my dsb. I thought it was due to a bad bulb on my Aquaticlife but after replacing the bulb it is still rearing its ugly head.

The only thing that has changed in my rutine is we have been making our own salt with instant ocean twenty gallons at a time for my water changes. Could this be due to not maintaning the 1.025 salinity? I have been off by a point or two the last two changes.

As always thanks again in advance for the help

^ +1 Definitely Cyano. I struggled with this for quite a while and have it bay at the moment. Do you have any type of nutrient export other than WC? When was the last time you cleaned your powerheads?

I tried pretty much every solution that wasn't chemical, I am not comfortable using chemicals. I built a ATS and have it over my fuge with chaeto, yes both, and once the ATS started growing well I had an issue with my lights so I decided to go for a full blackout since I was going to be without lights anyway for a couple days. That is what tipped the scales in my favor.

Best of luck, It can be a real battle.

Thanks guys i was 99% sure but wanted to confirm. I just checked my perams and just my calcium was wacky i did howerver add iodine supplement which maybe the cause. I ruitinely clean my power heads every WC so that is not the problem im aiming towards the timing on the lights as the possible culprit.

Mdbostwick: In the past i to have resorted to full black out and it works just not the best looking..lol Im planing on modifying my Aquticlife T5 times as well to eliminate that possibility. However full black out is definately on the table.....

    Thanks guys

I've been battling cyano for a full 6 months. I'm in need of a new sump so I'm sure that will help. Gcaroll is a member on here and has a great routine on getting rid of that stuff. I'm just waiting until my new rowaphos container shows up and I'm going lights out. Good luck

Unless you control your nutrient level it will come back unfortunately.

Get some chemiclean. Read the reviews on MarineD. Hard to find a negative word about it. Worked like magic for me.. but yeah. eventually will come back if conditions are conducive.
