I have alot more of the cyano down in the fudge and right now I have some cheto in there as well.

I had this same problem. There was a lot of Cyano in the Chaeto. I removed most of the chaeto, only kept tiny clean fraction. When the chaeto grew, so did the cyano. So now i'm chaeto free. Actually fuge free. All it did was create more problems.

Try to sphon as much cyano as possible, this will automatically result in a water change. Turn off the lights for a couple of days following a 20% water change.

Feed carefully, only feed whats consumed in minute or less. Do not use any food that floats.

You can try vodka dosing or dose Brightwell Aquatics BioFuel. Vodka will cause a bacterial bloom and force the bacteria to consume excess nutrients. These nutrients will be consumed by filter feeders or will be exported out through a protein skimmer.

When you does vodka or biofuel a lot of CO2 is produced, so protein skimmer is a must.

Do no turn the lights off following a vodka dose. Only for water change.

or u can try a product made by chemiclean. Red slime remover. its about 20 bucks at the LFS and it worked well for our tank. it targets cyano. good luck. I have heard alot about using vodka and would not recommend it to the novice user. IMO good luck

I used red slime remover with no Ill effects. After about a month there is a little cyano in the sump. I have high nitrates so I'm working on that. The red slim remover certainly isn't a long term solution but good temporary fix to get the slime off the corals.

If your fuge if the fuge's sole purpose is to filter, then keep in the cyano, it absorbs a lot of phosphate. If not, then work on getting that clean. cyano probably setup shop there because lower flow, different lighting etc... At least siphon it before treatin so you don't release the nutrients back in.

using chemicals to treat the problem is like turning the radio up in your car to fix the belt that is squealing. :) (I am doing that now actually, serpentine belt new one too...) The problem will build, and eventually you might run into chronic nutrient problems an old tank syndrome, probably pre-maturely.
