So i am 99% sure that i am about to have a cyano outbreak. It is only in one corner of my tank and i am now noticing it in different areas on my glass. This is strange to me because i have recently added a protien skimmer, and i was wondering if this has anything todo with my current outbreak.

Open to ideas and solutions, although i will probably just nuke it in a day or so. I Really want to find the source of my problem though, so if anyone has had a similar situation to this, lemme know!

I used chemiclean red slime remover after about 2 weeks of trying to figure it out and it went away.

then i bought "seagel" the phsoguard and carbon blend and it hasn't come back since..Im also switching to RO/DI water.

So i think i know where my cyano was coming from, I added a bit of old saltwater a few weeks ago when i was adjusting my preskimmer and water level. This is the only thing i can think of to trigger the cyano.

On another note i bulked up my CUC by adding some more hermits! love those guys!

I decided to just go ahead and nuke the cyano before it got to bad. the tank is going through the nuke cycle right now, the fish dont seem to notice anything and are all going about the usual business.

I just recovered from a cyano outbreak myself. It wansn't all that bad. I did have to nuke my tank though. Anything that comes back, gets vacumed out with my water changes.

I'm on recovery stage of a recent cyano breakout myself. The way I attacked it was all natural (not a fan of chemicals):

    - Decrease feeding (reduces DOCs)
    - Clean filter media (if any)
    - Clean Protein Skimmer (lots of gunk usually inside)
    - Clean out substrate w/ gravel siphon
    - Blast rocks with powerhead
    - More frequent water changes

There's only a few spots still left after a large infestation throughout my tank, but has pretty much subsided.

i did the same to my 10gal that had a cyano outbreak the first week. worked fine. just blasted all the rocks that had it, scraped it from the glass and siphoned out the bit of sand it was on.
