    3reef,

I've a 54 gallon drilled with 30lbs of live rock (once "dead"), a 20g sump with a bubble magnus nac 3 skimmer which pulls some major nasty. The tank has been up and running for 2 months.

My question as stated in the title...is this cyano dying? I've cut back on feeding and changed 15% of the water 1.5 weeks ago. It was super red before. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1349919749.000210.jpg

It appears to be going into remission. However, cyano stores extra phosphates for later use in the event levels should drop in the water. It can also release phosphates and potentially harmful secondary metabolites into the water should it actually die. I would suggest vacuuming it out next time you're removing water for a water change.

I actually have some water on hand for a small water change so I think I'll do that now.

    Any other suggestions 3reefers?

I vacuumed what I had every week during water changes, and made sure I was not overfeeding. Both of my tanks only had it for about a month (each got it about 2 months after starting up like yours).

I hate that red crap. Its been kicking my fuge's ass lately. I probably over feed but in the past 6months I have gotten extremely lazy with my tank. My reef controller makes everything so automated and running skimmerless means I have to dose less often. I probably do 1 waterchange every two months these days but I dose weekly.

Keep your phosphates down ie dont use tap water like me and you should be good

Ya, I definitely do not use tap water. No telling what could come out of a water spigot in Oklahoma City. My tank is starting to look good. All of my softies are also doing well. Full polyp extension and good coloration. The tank is still cycling (still some cyano), but right on track to be a bute as far as I can tell.

    I'll update with pictures later.

Very cool looking tank. I have the same tank. You are correct, it is on its way to being a beaut :)
