My 40 breeder has been running for 3 weeks now and I am finally starting to see a lot of diatoms. The cycle is in full swing now. My question is, when should I worry about turning my skimmer?

    Thanks.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
If you already past the ammonia spike and have a significant value for nitrates I would go a head and turn it on.

I run the skimmer during when cycling because I like to break it in for awhile, but a lot of people think it removes too much of the DOC slowing the growth of the bacterial filter, but for me this has never been an issue or prolonged the cycle.

I guess it really all depends on your current parameters, but honestly it really makes no difference IMO.
