my amonnia hit zero today now what do i do?

 

what is nitrite and nitrate?

 

wait for nitrites to drop to zero,then for nitrates to go down to at lest 10,after that,do a 10% wc and test again,you should be set.

 

ok i will test the nitrates i dont have a nitrite test yet

 

they are basically the different stages of ammonia breakdown,you start with AM foum a producing soarce,bacteria will multiply and consume it,as it does the bacteria converts the AM to nitrites where more bacteria consume therefore converting it to nitrate,bacteria will consume much of this and some is released through gas exchange from your surface agitation.When your nitrates climb it is because there is not enough bacteria to handle the bioload.Thats the basics,but mabey some others can chime in with more specifics.

AM-deadly to the tank
nitrites-deadly to the tank
nitrates-much less toxic and livestock can handle reasonable amounts.HTH

 

A nitrite kit is good to have especially when cycling.
