Cycle: Large vs Small Tank

    Does the size of the tank make a difference in how fast a system will cycle if the parameters are about the same.. such as 1.5 lbs LR to gal and live sand..

    I overheard the typical LFS employee helping to set up a person with a 20 gallon complete set up and he was telling him that a smaller tank is easier since it is smaller and cycles faster, giving you fish quicker..
    I kinda laughed and walked off because it sounded crazy, but I got curious and wanted to know for sure..

    It will take more to get substantial bacteria in a larger system IMO.

    yes that the only difference. if the liverock to tank size ratio is the same it should cycle in the same time.

    and smaller tanks are not better as far as stability. since the take a lot less time for a person to stock, you must be more percise in maitence
