I know that this probably can't be answered but how long do you guys think it will take to cycle my 29 gallon tank with 40 lbs of dry rock approximately? Thanks.

Hard to say really, but on average the natural cycle time is 4-6 weeks. There are ways of speeding it up. Dr. Tim's One and Only will speed things up(~2 weeks), but just waiting the 4-6 weeks will probably be best when using all base rock. That will give your tank plenty of time to go through the algae blooms that all new tanks seem to experience. Just make sure to add an ammonia source like half a shrimp.

Just make sure to get a simple test kit. The API kit is great for testing during a cycle. Just make sure to stay away from strip tests, they are horrible. Test every day or every other day and log your results. I used a simple excel spreadsheet. Also try to test around the same time everyday as that will help with pH results (day and night pH tends to be different).
