    could i put a few cuc in my tank my nitrates are both 0 and my amonia is between .5 and 1.

    It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    The best idea IMO is to not add any live animals until you have a value of 0 for ammonia and nitrites.

    As Corailline said, no livestock until there's no ammonia and nitrites. Otherwise, you'll just have to replace them when they die from the ammonia.
