I was reading that the PADI OWD Certificate, certifies for dives up to 132 feet at sea level. I don't think I would want to go much deeper than that.

Pshhh I dove the Spiegal on AIR.

Honestly Zgetman you shouldn't be going deeper than 60ft without your Advanced Open Water. Most responsible dive places won't let you go.

Most of the cool stuff that you want to hang out and look at is above 60' anyway. I'll get my trimix card and come hang out at 120 with ya Alex. I need a vacation anyway.
Did you get narced when you were at speigal on air Alex?

Nope. I've done alot of deep dives. I would say probably half of my few hundred dives are deep.

The only time I have been Narced was in 2002 off Maui on the little crater/island of Molokini. It was a perfect day as Molokini lies right between the Peaks of Puu Kukui and Haleakala so there is usually some pretty bad surf as those peaks funnel all the wind into the island.

Anyways on this day the whole sea was smooth like glass. We were diving the northside and back wall of the crater and there was this 5-6ft black tip reef shark sleeping under a ledge. I was looking at it holding my camera and thought "Man I should pull his tail then immediately snap a picture, that pic would be AWESOME"

Now I didn't have alarm bells like it was a bad idea, but something made me think a little longer and I began to realize I was narced... once I knew I was ok but I was inches away from grabbing the tail fin.

BACK TO CRITTER COLLECTION: The only reason I want to go deep is for Cave and Candy Basslets. I just love those fish and I've heard some stories that they are in the 70-100 ft range at night in the Keys with some regularity. Slurp gun and a sweet overnight box home ill be in business.

Right on... Sounds like a plan. That would be a cool story to tell someone about your fish.
Remember to always start your story with
    "There I was...."
    Makes it interesting.

I was reading about the classes, and they say that 60-80 feet is where most of the things to see are. I don't think I would ever want to go any deeper than that.

I found a class closer to me than I thought. After crunching the numbers, looks like 1000.00 will get me my certificate and my fitted diving gear.

I guess I will start saving at the beginning of the year.

You can rent gear for a long time. Should be able to get the clases for 200-300 and then all you really need is a mask/snorkel and I suggest fins.

The Scuba Center in Amarillo, Tx, gives lessons for around 307.00 dollars, but they state " Mask, snorkel, fins, booties, weight belt and mesh gear bag is required.
All the required diving gear needs to be bought here at Amarillo Scuba Ctr..

Equipment usually ranges from $200.00 to $300.00".

Not to mention all the other cost they tack on.
$38.00 PADI Processing fee for your Certification Card ie.. C-Card

Open water fee of $158.00 for the weekend.

City of Santa Rosa, NM. $8.00 for the weekend

Then I would have to have cost for travel and hotel stay. That is another 200 dollars.

    Total cost is nearly 1000.00

Just a rundown off their website.
