cycling fish only tank

    do i need to use live rock to cycle a fish only tank?

    You never need L/rock to cycle any type of tank.. I have never nor will I ever use L/rock for anything. I think it exposes my tanks to many problems .

    i wanted to start a fish only tank with no rock just peices of dead coral and lfs told me i needed live rock to cycle my tank thats y i ask maybe they just need my money

    No, not for a show tank.

    Some live sand would be nice.

    i have 100lbs of live sand will that be enough for a 125gal tank
