Hey everyone I did not know what to post this under and it is about the water so i chose this anyway. I am starting a new tank with all dead rock and dead sand bed. I was wondering how the tank will cycle with out any fish or live rock and how long will it take to cycle?
It is a 72 gallon with around 60 pounds of dead rock and a 2 innch sand bed

There are many many ways to start a cycle. Dead shrimp from your grocer, ghost feed, use pure ammonia or take some rock from an established tank. As for the time it can vary, no ones cycle is exactly the same

I would do like 3-4. I'm not really sure exactly because I always do the pure ammonia

I started with dry rock and sand also.
I used the shrimp method myself.
You should get RAW UN-seasoned shrimp.
3-4 shrimp for a week will work fine.
Wait until your ammonia and nitrites test 0, then you can add a fish or two.
My tank took 30 days for example before I could add the first fish.
    Good luck and have fun!;)
