The algae is all part of the cycle. Don't worry about the cuc, they will go where the food is.

the green algae on the glass is pretty thick, and it comes back every day after i scrape it. When i do scrape it , it has the consistancy of powder. Any tricks to get rid of it? i know it is part of the cycling process, but it is pretty ugly.

lower your phosphates and nitrates. you could also cut back on your light cycle.

How long are you running your lights?

I'd look at both phosphates and whether you are over feeding.

I'm a sw rookie and by no means want to hijack this thread, but wanted to chime in. I was told by the person I bought my used setup from to run the lights 12 hours per day. Not sure how accurate that really is.

What is the proper time to run lights per day, and does it depend on the type of lighting and/or livestock?
