It's finally happening, I'm getting a bigger (40g :) tank! It's on the way and me and my 3 fish can't wait! I know there are many posts on cycling, but has anyone tried to get their cycling going by adding water from an existing tank?

    Thanks and wish me luck!!!

Water does not harbor the bacteria needed for a bio load. Live Sand, Rock, Live Rock etc, have the bacteria.

While using mature, stabilized water won't hurt, it does nothing for the cycle as the bacteria colonizes on submerged surfaces. Although I personally prefer the old-fashioned method, many have had great success at achieving a faster cycle by using Brightwell's Microbacter7 or Dr. Tim's One and Only bacterial supplements.

If you're planning to use the rock from your older system, that will definitely help, as well.

Thanks! I'm going to buy some more live sand and rock and use my existing rock as well. If that's all it takes to get the cycling going I'm all set!

+1 to what Mr. Bill said! I have used Microbacter7 in the past with great success. Dr. Tim is supposed to have really products as well.
