So my 40G reef tank has been cycling for the last week. I have only had a few Nitrogen spikes but everything has been pretty stable the last few days. I know everyone says to cycle with a damsel, but I really don't want a damsel. I work at Petco and I have had my eye on this 6 line wrassie. He has weathered the crappy 10G tanks we have at work for the past 4 months, so he is pretty hardy. He has a great personality and is constantly moving around, plus will eat krill from my hand. I havent recieved my lights yet, but I will be getting them next thursday. If my levels stay good for say the next week and a half. Could I put this 6 line in my tank? I dont want to rush anything and hurt the fish, but I am affraid someone may buy him.

Talk to someone about buying him now but not takiing him until you know your tank is fully cycled, much better chance for a happy ending for both of you! Good luck, hope it goes well, would be a nice beginning for you and your tank.

Well I manage the store, and I run the aquatics department. lol So I think I am going to put a under observation sign on his tank. That means we are watching him for a illness and can't be sold. hahahaha I also just ordered 2 more, so I will see how they all get along, then maybe I will get all three. I heard they like to be in groups.

Well.....I wouldn't go too hog wild on the SLW!!! They are good fish to have as long as you have just one. You can have them in with other wrasses, just not the same kind. I have an eight line and a red coris. They get along famously.

+1. You dont want to keep multiples, they will fight.
And you need to wait till you are done cycling.

Ok, thanks for the info. I don't plan on getting any fish for a few more weeks untill my tank is done cycling. That is why I am going to mark the fish as un sellable, so i can buy it myself in a few weaks. hahaha

I've spoken with the employees and nothing seems to get done. It's pread to most of the other fish and just isn't good. I saw a man pointing to a fish that he wanted and I told him not to bother because it was sick. The 6line was throwing itself in to rocks trying to scratch his itch. It was bad..... A lot of them also looked like they had some sort of fuzzy coating on them.
