What is the best way to cycle a tank, I always hear about a deli shrimp being used, but can you use fish food or something else, my tank has had live rock for about six days.

Just toss in part of a raw deli shrimp. It's literally only a few cents.

Okay so after two weeks this is my results
    pH NH3 Nitrite Nitrate
    8.2 0.25 0.2 0
    8.4 0.25 0.2 5
    8.4 0.25 0.2 20

Should I keep the pieces of shrimp in there ore take them out, also is this normal to see this constant ammonia and nitrite.
