I recently had some red slime covering my entire sandbed and back glass/rocks. I ended up using chemiclean and increasing flow which should have addressed the issue (so far so good!). It's been about a week and three 25-30% water changes and my skimmer still can't skim correctly. It boils over even when I have it turned 100% open.

Is there a time period for this? Do I need to just keep doing water changes? This is getting quite expensive since I buy my water :p

    Thanks!

Try turning your skimmer down so the bubbles are barely reaching the bottom of the cup,it may not make skimmate for a little bit,but what it does make will be thicker with less water in it.Do you have any coral in your tank?,cyano is photosynthetic form of bacteria, try turning the lights out for a few days and starve it.

I think the cyno is ok now. The trick was the flow, I swear that worked better than the medicine.

When i turn my skimmer all the way down it still boils over, almost like the water is very viscous. I did a few water changes but still too think to skim properly. Should I continue changing out 25% or should I just wait it out? I haven't had this running for about a month now and want cleaner water for my fish.

Great on the cyano,if you just started the skimmer up after a month it will need to slime up b4 it begins operating properly,if that's the case, run it wide open letting it overflow for a few days and then go back to dialing it in.

I will try that. I hate when it overflows because it splashed everywhere so I suppose I should cover it somehow.

It's in sump. I have a paper towel on the top of the cup to stop the splashing but it's still overflowing like crazy - this is day 2.
