I do not see any hate. Posted are facts. Fact that expose an obscenely profitable scam.

The UPS has only one function. Provides temporary power during a blackout. To protect unsaved data. Read its specs. No effective hardware protection exists. It simply provides very 'dirty' and temporary power. A long list of reasons why were posted earlier.

Because facts are so damning, that must be hate?

Nothing a DA reefkeeper can be plugged directly into will protect from surges. Nothing can block or absorb destructive surges. Surges must be earthed before entering the building. Informed consumers earth only one 'whole house' protector so that nobody even knew a surge existed. Otherwise a surge will go hunting for earth; even via the reefkeeper. Plug-in protectors sometimes make damage easier.

I've heard similar rants before, but it is usually done by a couple of geeks on bicycles in suits.

    and to you bama...War Eagle.

You have 4 posts and all of them are telling people they are wrong. I have actually gotten reimbursed for a TV and DVD player that were destroyed when a power strip failed. The key is to follow the rules. Keep the receipt, for everything. READ. EVERYTHING. TWICE. Thats the key. I am also a firm believer that if your household electric is up to code and grounded properly, a surge protector is just a way to plug in multiple "appliances."

    Now STFU troll.

Wow, there is an old saying "Can't dazzle them with brilliance, Baffle them with BS".

I'm not going to have a pissing contest with people that have not even proven themselves on here or that may have no clue. First path of electricity, especially lightning is UNPREDICTABLE! You hope that they travel the path you have made. I have seen an arc shoot out of an outlet and go into another one. I have been to the APC plant in RI & have seen what it takes for these products have to go through in order to past their tests, not to mention to be UL tested & approved.

I'm going by my professional experiences in the computer industry over the years period! I'm not going by flyers or internet mumbo jumbo. Do good surge protectors work? YES! Are UPS's better than surge protectors? YES! Will a non branded $3.00 surge protector do the same as a $65.00 PanaMax or APC surge protector? NO! Are you 100% protected? NO, anything can fail at any given time. Of course your home or business must be properly grounded or nothing with work.

Furthermore do keep in mind and I have seen this time & time again. Customer has a UPS or surge protector & have all their computer equipment plugged into it except the printer, it's plugged directly into the outlet. Surge during a storm, computer fries. What happen??? Well the surge traveled from the outlet that the printer was plugged into, then travel the cable that connected to the computer. End result, "This protector is junk!" No, the protection loop was NEVER completed! What do I mean about a protection loop? All pieces of equipment must be protected. (network switches, cable modems, etc...) This is the number 1 reason people think why their protector failed. I'm done with this discussion.

Getting back to the question at hand. Yes, I would protect it. ;)

I use APC & mine are older units. Also some of these newer units or generic UPS's are a pain to get replacement batteries.. It comes down to one thing, how much battery run timne do you need. Now figure out the watts of all the equipment that you need to run. Now just match the UPS size.

Here's what I use for my computer:

    Buy.com - CyberPower Intelligent LCD CP1285AVRLCD 1285VA UPS

Here's what I use for my return pump (was my first ups for my computer until I upgraded to the Cyberpower 1285va that I linked first). The one I have I can't find a link for, so I linked to one that looks exactly like it but is the 685va model, rather than the 525va that I have.

    Buy.com - CyberPower AVR CP685AVR 685VA UPS

Here's what I have for my home theater system (must use a true sine wave ups or you will get more harmonic distortion)

    Buy.com - CyberPower Smart App Sinewave PP1100SW 1100VA UPS
