So I got a single yellow tail damsel, to help cycle my tank, at 11 and it is now 6 and haven't seen him sense I put him in. Now I use this term very loosely because of the fact that the bag opened up about 10 mins after my first add of tank water and let him in to the tank. And haven't seen him sense he was in the bag.
What are the odds he is dead? Or am i just being super antsy?

Welp never mind I just saw him. He is super scared from what I could tell and jumped behind a rock again.
Now I feel a little silly.

if you havent already turn off your lights, it allows him to adjust to a softer, less tense environment.

you will find that fish can hide anywhere, even in the smallest amount of rock and space. I didn't see my 6 line for a few days and thought I looked everywhere, he came back out eventually

i had a very porous rock(had huge holes in it) and my sixline wrasse was being picked on by a hawkfish. so he went into the rock and i didn't see him for two months and this was a twenty gallon tank, so if he came out of the rock i would have seen him.
after i took the hawk out he showed up after a couple of days. looking fat as ever he had been living off the pods inside the rock with out ever leaving.

My 4-stripe damsel used to hide in a 1/2" diameter hole in my LR, it was a little cave for him. He has since outgrown the hole and cannot fit anymore. I thought my emerald crab ate him when he was nowhere to be found, then he popped out during feeding time. The critters will hide anywhere they can. Do turn off the lights to lower his stress. It sounds like you dropped him into the tank a bit fast, as compared to a slow acclimation period where you add 1/2 cup of tank water into the bag he is in every 15 mins for 2 hours, so the lights are an added stress for him.
