We picked up a pretty decent sized emerald crab today and added him to our tank. He's doing great but one of our blue damsels seems to be picking on him. He doesnt nip at him but he keeps hitting the crab with his tail and stirring up sand in his face. The crab is in a cave that particular fish always stays in so we're sure the damsel is just being territorial. Is there any danger of the fish doing any damage to the crab?

Damsels are ridiculously territorial. I am done with them myself. :) I am kinda done moving my reef around for now. I would be more afraid for the damsel when it comes to a crab.

territorial - definitely - had the same issues with a frag of yellow polpys and a Damsel
that took me 3 attempts to re locate on rock , before I spotted said Damsel literally pushing the frag of the rock

I dont believe the Emerald is in any danger from the Damsel and either it will move away or the Damsel will get bored once accustomed to its presence

damsels can be little punks.. I trapped mine and they went to the sump for a while until I went to the big LFS to make a trade.. Bought for $5 and received $4 credit.

The crab keeps coming in and out of the hole he sits in front of the entrance of the hole like he is guarding the hole. Would our crab hurt the Damsel?

I dont believe any major damage would be done, a wafting of the claw would be as severe as it gets IMHO

the Damsel should then learn to leave well alone
