It really depends on the type of sand (grain size, smaller = longer to settle), and whether it is rinsed before hand. Being "live" sand, not many would advise you to rinse it before hand anyways.

Looking very nice. I am working on a 40B build myself. I am about to pull the trigger on the same weir. Could you tell me more about the setup of you overflow? Did you use 1" or 1.5" bulkheads? What were your measurements for spacing and height?

Nice build. I am building a 40b as well and have the same skimmer. I noticed the tee on your skimmer outlet, does that work well? does it keep it quiet? I have a 90 on the end of mine and wondered if it works better with a tee.

Thanks, easy enough to learn as you go.

Thanks, I had the overflow box custom built from gl*******s.com. They did an awesome job and I highly recommend them. My overflow is a slightly modified bean animal with 1" bulkheads and it is truly dead silent. Let me know if you haven't proceeded with your tank yet and I will measure and give you more details.

Yes this piece helped alot. I built it similar to the piece you can buy. If your skimmer runs loud also make sure your pump is turned horizontal. I noticed when I had it vertical like the picture on the box and instructions showed it ran very loud. Simply turning it horizontal made it nearly silent.
