    Hi

I have a dark green hair like alge starting to grow in one corner of my tank.
I have been using city water, and mixing my Instan Ocean salt to a 1.022
i guess i should use RO water.
How should I change it out? 50/50

definately need to get away from city water if it's anything like mine here. Just start using r/o water in regular changes so it is a slow transition.
As far as alge goes, you get it, period. If you have alot of purple coraline alge it stops the spread of hair alge by not giving it a place to grow. Also, I have discovered chemi-pure! Looks like carbon, added to filter, and what a difference it makes!

well, for the first year i used bottled water. then when i moved into my new house i had the softener guy put me in an ro unit. Nothing but alge since. I have tried everything, so i guess what i am trying to say is..... an r o unit sometimes is not the best answer for me anyhow.

RO/DI is definitely going to be a major improvement for your tank - As far as that hair algae my Yellow Tang thought is was delicious and it didn't last long with him eating it-

there are differences between RO units on the market. some that are made for the consumption of humans and those that are meant for the reef tank. i would suggest purchasing distilled water from the grocery store and using that for your aquarium until you can figure out what the problem is with your RO unit.
